HOME AGAIN // EPISODE 1 – Spitzer Sawyer Source Guide

KITCHEN

I love this kitchen. So simple but so lovely. When designing kitchen spaces I do my best to honor the style and era of the home. Especially one with this much HISTORY! 100+ years?! Are ya kidding me? So we went with a vintage inspired range, a hidden hood, a simpler cabinet shape from and thanks to the warm white paint throughout we let the soft spoken details do the talking. The client’s daughter, brought it all together by choosing this lovely gorgeous and understated marble. Feeling inspired, we also went with the local Pittsburgh artist connection and brought in some dreamy pieces by the great David Stanger Studio.

DINING

Love me a long dining table to fit all your family and friends (someday soon!) – and our very own Steve Ford built this custom table that fit perfectly. The extra length visually connects the kitchen to the living area. Once I noticed the Andrew Wyeth meets Alice in Wonderland thing happening I called my friend A White Cake and asked her if she had any magical cakes that would hammer the vision home. Which turned this place into a Marie Antoinette thing!

LIVING ROOM

Most of the beauty of this space was already there when we got our hands on it. Beautiful windows, great marble mantle, historical texture (check out @stevefordsgarage to hear more about that!) and we found these wood floors under years of old carpet and very old newspapers (that we saved!) I had to make a judgement call on how to make these old floors livable. I felt like they weren’t ready to retire JUST yet- so a beautiful cream hand brushed paint was the ticket. Feels historical but fresh. Add some lighting and great furniture and now this home and all the beauty that she started with gets to live a second, third, fourth life.

LIBRARY

Talk about maximizing a small space! We took this small walkthrough hallway and turned it into a bookworm’s dream! Inspired by Dave’s love of history, we paired a vintage leather chesterfield sofa and chair with wall-to-wall custom bookshelves (made locally by our good friend Wood’n’Wrench that were just begging to be filled with his collection. As we added his books to the #shelves, the room started to take on a character of its own. Sometimes design means letting the pieces you already own tell their story—the rest will fall into place.

ART STUDIO

As a fellow artist (or so I’d like to think) I just dove into what a dream studio for me would be. I felt a duty to make something magical to inspire Vicki for years to come. We did the same warm white that we used throughout the house but added beadboard and the peg rails around the entire room to hang art, aprons, paint brushes and more! We wanted to create an inviting and more importantly — inspiring space.
