The Top 10 Home Trends Designers Secretly Hate

If there’s one thing designers have, it’s strong opinions. And as much as there are trends and styles they love—there are also those they downright hate. In Los Angeles this week for the La Cinega Design Quarter’s Legends design event, Chairish hosted a riotous conversation with celebrity designers Nate Berkus, Jeremiah Brent, Bobby Berk, Leanne Ford, Mary McDonald, and Nathan Turner—joined by House Beautiful’s own Style Director, Robert Rufino. Over an hourlong panel, these illustrious design names revealed a whole lot about what they love—and even more about what they can’t stand. Here’s what they never want to see in their homes.

Leanne Ford: scenic wallpaper

While we find a wall swathed in a De Gournay floral or Gracie chinoiserie absolutely swoon-worthy, the beloved host of Restored by the Fords isn’t convinced. It shouldn’t come as any surprise; Ford’s interiors tend to be relaxed, modern, and subdued, hardly attributes of scenic walls. “I just think it gets dated so quickly,” Ford explains.

“Well,” quipps Bobby, “that’s when they have you back to redecorate!” Touché.
