The Lost Loos
Some of my favorite bathrooms from Home Again and Restored By The Fords never actually made it to TV! We are kicking off the week of "THE LOST LOOS" with a throwback to Season 1 of Restored By The Fords for the Wilmot Project.
This bathroom was made for TV but as the reveal date for the show got closer, we knew we were never going to finish it in time (...that happens ;)), so we decided sleep was more important than showing this puppy off. But here ya go, Simple, Clean Lines and Open space. We turned a very awkward old bathroom into an entire wet room shower in this project. Everything is waterproof, and the shower space is large enough that there is no need for a shower curtain or glass!

This bathroom was from the season finale of RBTF Season 1 - A rowhouse with clean lines and artistic elements throughout. The stairs entering the home were white with black graffiti that we commissioned from our friend Carolyn Kelly so we brought similar art onto the powder room floor! Ten points if you know what album cover inspired this floor design! This project was all life, art, fun! It's best to have artistic, creative clients that let us play! (ps- It's the Elliot Smith album.)

We added a powder room to the first floor of this historic home. At first glance, it looked like a coat closet, so we wanted to give it some life. We found a beautiful vintage door with glass to bring some natural light and make it more inviting. The finishing touch was our playful, hand-written "Le Loo" on the window.

I personally worked VERY hard on this tile wall (baby’s first tiling job!) And I was proud of it! Imperfections and all! Only for it to never see the light of Restored By The Fords! Glad we got a shot of it! I always collect vintage tile when I see it and knew it would be perfect for this cottage-style home. I feel like Cottage style is Wabi-Sabi by a different name. Imperfect and lived-in and embracing life and all the beautiful mess that comes with it!

This yellow tile is “dated,” I admit it. But by pairing it with a modern, chic and simple Concrete Nation sink and some wall fun, we turned this bathroom into a more special scene. My advice: don't be afraid to layer several tones of one color in a space. I find that repeating a color can simplify and unite a room. And as you all know, I have always loved white on white, but this yellow on yellow feels just as good!

They always say, “what goes around comes around!” And it’s true—I am always getting inspiration from the past! Over the last few years, pink retro bathrooms have gotten a BAD rep than a GOOD rep. Well, I am here to say don't rip the pink tile out of your bathroom just yet. It’s got so much potential.
While this particular pink tile wasn't original to the house, I paired it with a vintage brass faucet and sink, two globe sconces that, yes, I took white paint to, and fresh linen for good measure. The final product is a very gentle and very elegant version of a classic pink-tiled bathroom.

While working on The Cottage project for my sister-in-law, I played with wall texture to reintroduce some of the histories that space once had. We used everything from coffee on the walls to a grout wash over collaged wallpaper to get that really soulful, lived-in feeling that I find is the magic behind all those European countryside cottages we (or at least I) daydream about. In this bathroom, we put up a layer of chalkboard paint and then grabbed a piece of chalk, rubbing the entire walls with the side of it, then “wiping it off” to help age and add texture to the previously plain black walls.
